Scotch Buff sandstone is one of our more popular buff sandstones, especially on projects where the customer wants to see natural variation throughout the stone. Natural stone sometimes has a reputation for being a traditional or old-fashioned building material, however looking at some of the projects we supply we would definitely disagree. We often work with customers looking to put a modern spin on natural stone, and regularly supply stunning commercial projects with a wide variety of natural stone components that keep natural stone at home in the 21st century.

From versatile lightweight cladding systems through to contemporary adaptations of more traditional facades, we are confident that natural stone will continue to feature heavily in modern construction as installation methods and production techniques continue to adapt to meet the demands of the construction industry.

If you have a project where you would like to consider natural stone but aren’t sure whether what you are looking to achieve is possible then why not get in touch to see if our team can help? We’re always working on new designs and ideas, so may have something that is the perfect fit for your project.

As a stone supplier based in the Cumbrian Lake District we are spoilt for choice when it comes to the stunning natural stones we have access to, and we are often asked which of our sandstones is the most popular. This really depends on where the stone is being supplied to, however when working locally our Lazonby sandstone is obviously the natural choice for our customers.

Lazonby Quarry is situated just three miles north of our premises in Penrith, Cumbria. Historically Lazonby sandstone was widely used on several high-profile projects before eventually becoming dormant. Lazonby Quarry was then reopened in 2006 due to an increasing demand for the supply of a hard wearing, high quality Cumbrian red sandstone. It now produces an excellent quality raw material for processing at our production facilities in Penrith, and we regularly supply this durable sandstone to developers and private individuals all over the UK.

Here's something a little different for a Tuesday afternoon... we are working with one of our fantastic customers to produce these stunning natural stone balusters for one of their projects. The real thing took a little longer than the 48 seconds shown here, but we've sped things up to show the whole process from start to finish. ... See MoreSee Less

If only Cumbrian Stone were around when Stevenson's Bridge was first built, then he could have ordered all of the stone from one place!
Fortunately we were here to play our part in the restoration work, supplying all three of the required sandstones to this unique project.

Great to see the project featured on The Architecture the Railways Built with Tim Dunn on Yesterday/UKTV.

Great work Tony! What a fantastic result!Huge thanks to Tony Lowery with the support of Cumbrian Stone Ltd for donating £1,856 following Tony’s Chester Marathon Challenge on the 3rd October.

Tony trained for many months in preparation for this challenge and achieved a tremendous time of 3 hours 49 minutes. This isn’t the first time Tony has ran and raised funds for Hospice at Home when in 2008 he completed the London Marathon.

We would like to thank Tony, all the sponsors and Cumbrian Stone for this generous commitment which will help provide many, many hours of care and comfort to local patient, families and carers in the home.

What a fantastic result! Tony smashed his 4 hour target with an official time of 3.49.40 in the 2021 Chester Marathon.

Don't forget, Tony has completed this marathon in support of Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland and has already raised over £1,250 for this amazing cause. There's still time to donate and boost this total even higher, and the easiest way to do this is via Tony's just giving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tony-lowery-chester2021

A big thank you to everyone who has helped Tony support such a fantastic cause! The total raised as of this morning is an amazing £1,806 before gift aid, and this generous support will help Hospice at Home keep delivering essential support across Cumbria.

Well done Tony, ( could think of better things to do on a Sunday mind 😁)

Our team loves to call in and visit projects that we have been lucky enough to supply, and last week one of our team had the pleasure of dropping by The Flower Pots Inn for lunch whilst holidaying in sunny Hampshire! We think the new extension to the inn (complete with our Longridge paving and Lazonby Flower Pots) looks amazing, plus we have it on good authority that the Pots Bitter, Cheriton Porter and chunky chips are definitely worth the trip! ... Repair and restoration work is something we always enjoy, and over the last couple of weeks our masons have been hard at work hand carving these beautiful replacement tracery window stones for a restoration project in Kendal. As the full window doesn't need replaced, each section had to be carefully measured and set out to fit with remaining window stones. We're sure they will look stunning once they are in place! ... Here's something a little different for a Monday morning... our Peakmoor sandstone has been used to help form a new fish pass at Limefields Falls Weir near Edinburgh. This great project will help to enhance the biodiversity of the upstream areas of the Harwood Water by providing new access for fish and eels.
