Accredited Laboratory Testing for Natural Stone

Just like any other building material, natural stone has to meet specific requirements in order to be safely used as a building material. If the chosen stone doesn’t have the required strength or density for its intended use this could result in a dangerous and costly failure of the finished stone unit in the future.

In order to ensure that all of our natural stones meet the required standards for the components we produce we send samples of each of our stones to be tested by an accredited, independent laboratory on a regular basis. The results from these tests give is a clear snapshot of the quarry properties at the time of testing and give us a benchmark to monitor our stones against.

These results are specific to the stones that we cut and supply at Cumbrian Stone, and we strongly advise that our test results are not representative of other products sourced from elsewhere - unfortunately we do come across suppliers with no test data for their materials, and on occasion have found that our test data has been used on projects where the material hasn't been sourced from ourselves. Due to this we've chosen not to openly publish our current test data online, and instead hold our results of these accredited tests on file for each of our stones; this data is available for review on request.

Additional Natural Stone Testing for Your Specific Project

Many natural stone projects go ahead based on the available accredited test data alone, and additional testing or monitoring is not required by the design team. However on larger projects or projects where consistency and performance are key factors some customers prefer the peace of mind of having additional testing carried out at the onset of their project and periodically throughout the build.

At Cumbrian Stone we can offer the following services for additional stone testing and monitoring on your project:

Enhanced In-House Monitoring

Alongside our regular, random sampling from our production lines, we can take additional samples for testing in our laboratory as your order progresses through our production process. The data from these tests is provided in an individual report for each sample, allowing for easy comparison to the original accredited test data.

Pre-Start and Intermittent Accredited Testing

We work alongside several accredited laboratories who can provide current testing data for our stones at the onset of a project if required. This helps ensure that the expected performance of your chosen stone is up to date and not based on information that may be several years old.
